Fowl Pox Vaccine, Live

Indications
Is recommended for vaccination of chickens against Fowl Pox Disease for both initial vaccination and revaccination.

Description
Is a live, cell culture adapted virus vaccine. It has been lyophilized (freeze-dried) in vials and sealed under vacuum to preserve stability. It is supplied with diluent. The product meets rigid 'Quality Control' standards of Purity, Safety and Potency as per individual monographs of viral vaccines of B.P. (Vet).

Composition
Each dose contains Not Less Than 102 EID50 Fowl Pox virus.

Vaccination Schedule
This vaccine is recommended for use at 6 weeks of age or older. Revaccinate 6 to 8 weeks later. Vaccinate replacement pullets at least 4 weeks prior to the onset of egg production.

Vaccination Method
  • Wing Web Method
Rehydrate the vaccine with the diluent provided, after removing the aluminium seals and rubber stoppers of both the vaccine vial and the diluent bottle. Insert the two- pronged applicator (lancet) tip into the rehydrated vaccine bottle. Hold the bird with the wing stretched out. Stab through the wing web completely, with the lancet containing the vaccine, taking care not to puncture the large blood vessels. Recharge the applicator with vaccine before vaccinating each bird.

Vaccination Reaction
Examine the wing web inoculation site of vaccinated birds, for mild tissue reactions, called "takes", 7 to 10 days post-vaccination. These swellings serve as a good indicator of successful immunization.

Precautions
  • Do not rehydrate vaccine until ready for use
  • Use the sterile diluents supplied with the vaccine only
  • Vaccinate only healthy birds
  • Use entire contents of the vial when first opened
  • Burn all used vials and unused contents
  • Do not use chemical disinfectants for sterlisation
  • Keep vaccine in ice bath during the entire vaccination period
  • Reconstituted vaccine should be used immediately
  • Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter
  • Care should be taken to avoid the vaccine coming in contact with the bird's eyes or mouth
  • For veterinary use only
